Center’s first season reaches $1.6 million in sales

The Center for the Performing Arts closed its 2010-11 season with its final concert featuring country crooner K.D. Lang on June 22. Final box office sales are now totaled and the “Inaugural Season presented by St.Vincent Health” grossed $1,665,000.

“The response from concert-goers has been extraordinary,” said President/CEO Steven B. Libman. “Many of the concerts were sold-out and our subscribers already are looking ahead to next season.”

Of the 24 performances in the inaugural season, Libman said the Center sold 34,467 tickets, equaling 96% of the hall’s seating inventory. The total box office gross was $1,665,000. The abbreviated season launched on January 29 with the Palladium’s grand opening gala celebration. The 24 performances spanned five series: classics, songbook, jazz, country, and dance.

Headed into the 2011-12 full season, which kicks-off on August 23 with Tony Bennett, the Center’s subscription sales are attracting new subscribers and renewals. Subscription sales launched on May 9 and the Center’s box office has sold 26,000 tickets, representing 31% of the available seats. The 81-concert season will include performances in all three venues: the Palladium concert hall, the Tarkington Theater and the Studio Theater.

During July and August, “Summer at the Palladium” will entice guests with a six-concert series, starting July 10 with the Indigo Girls. Single tickets for “Summer at the Palladium” are available online at, by phone at 317-843-3800 or at the Palladium box office, One Center Green.

The Center for the Performing Arts includes the 1,600-seat Palladium concert hall, the 500-seat proscenium Tarkington Theater and a 200-seat Studio Theater. No other facility of its caliber exists in Central Indiana, where the Center will be a permanent cultural resource for the region and a major destination. In addition to offering an extraordinary listening experience, the Center will also be home to Michael Feinstein’s Great American Songbook Collection.
