Obituary: James Edward Estridge
James Edward Estridge, 87, of Carmel, died Jan. 3, 2015 at his residence. Born June 6, 1927 in Dayton, he was the son of Elmer and Hannah (Houser) Estridge.
His family moved to the Indianapolis area in the early 1930s. He began working when he was young, helping out on milk routes, dairy farms, and also working with his father in his five grocery stores. As he grew into adulthood, he continued working in his dad’s stores and also drove a school bus for Carmel Clay Schools from 1951 to 1978. He became a used car dealer and also opened his own grocery store in Jolietville, Ind. He then went on to work for Union State Bank, where he worked for 15 years; then worked for his brother at Paul Estridge Company for 10 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Ann Estridge; children, Ed Estridge, Peggy Estridge Latta, John (Kelly) Estridge and Carla (Habib) Azar; brother, Donald E. Estridge; grandchildren, Amber and Christine Latta, Chloe Bass, Diana Smith, Colton and Cody Estridge and Habib Azar Jr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Paul E. Estridge Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 6 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Rd., Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Brad Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
