Westfield Police Dept. searches for suspect in vehicle theft at Kroger
Near midnight Jan. 12, Westfield Police Dept. officers were sent to Kroger at 17447 Carey Rd. in response to the report of a vehicle theft. A woman reported that two black males stole her 2015 Chevrolet Camaro.
The victim told police her car was struck by a dark Dodge Dart while she was in the Kroger parking lot. She claimed she exited her vehicle when one of the suspects entered her vehicle and drove away while the other fled the scene in the Dodge Dart.
Carmel Police Dept. officers located the Camaro, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated until the Camaro crashed at 151st Street and Carey Road. The suspect fled on foot and was apprehended by the Carmel K-9 unit. The suspect was determined to be Elix Jody Powell, 18, of Indianapolis. He was charged with armed robbery, auto theft, two counts of resisting law enforcement, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license. He was transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
The WPD is still searching for the other suspect that fled the scene in the Dodge Dart. He was described as being thin and more than six-feet tall. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact WPD at 317-773-1300 or call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 to remain anonymous.
